Privacy
Privacy Policy
Curator’s Cabinet builds tools for preserving meaningful collections. We believe the information within a private collection should remain under the collector’s control.
Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Curator’s Cabinet, LLC (“Curator’s Cabinet,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the ChessCatalog application, the CuraCab.com website, and messages submitted through our support page.
This policy does not replace the privacy policies or terms of Apple, Squarespace, or other services that you independently use. Those providers process information according to their own agreements and privacy practices.
Information stored in ChessCatalog
ChessCatalog allows you to create and maintain records about chess sets and related collection materials. Depending on how you use the app, these records may include:
- Set names, makers, dates, dimensions, materials, and storage information
- Photographs and thumbnail images
- Acquisition, provenance, purchase-price, and valuation details
- Certificates, receipts, labels, correspondence, reference material, and other supporting documentation
- Board-pairing, completeness, condition, and collector notes
- App preferences and organizational settings
ChessCatalog does not require a Curator’s Cabinet user account. Your collection records are stored on your device and, when you enable iCloud synchronization, through your personal Apple iCloud account.
Curator’s Cabinet does not operate a server-side dashboard through which we can browse your private catalog, collection photographs, or supporting documents.
No advertising or cross-app tracking
ChessCatalog does not use your collection data for advertising. We do not sell your collection data, and the app is not designed to track your activity across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Diagnostics and analytics
ChessCatalog does not currently include third-party advertising or behavioral-analytics software. Apple may provide developers with aggregated or diagnostic information through its developer services, subject to your device and Apple privacy settings.
iCloud storage and synchronization
When iCloud synchronization is available and enabled, ChessCatalog may use Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit services to synchronize app records and associated content among devices signed in to your Apple Account.
Information synchronized through iCloud is processed and stored by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy practices. Curator’s Cabinet does not receive your Apple Account password or iCloud credentials.
You control iCloud availability through your Apple device and account settings. Disabling iCloud synchronization may stop future synchronization, but it does not necessarily remove data already stored locally or in iCloud. You can manage local app data by editing or deleting records in ChessCatalog and by using the storage and iCloud controls provided by Apple.
Premium purchases
Purchases for ChessCatalog Premium are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Curator’s Cabinet does not receive or store your complete payment-card number or Apple Account credentials.
Apple may provide the app with transaction, product, and entitlement information needed to complete a purchase, restore a prior purchase, determine access to Premium features, prevent fraud, and provide customer support.
Apple is responsible for processing App Store payments and maintains related purchase records under its own terms and privacy practices.
Website and support information
Information you provide
When you submit a support request, we receive the information you choose to provide. This may include your first and last name, email address, message subject, message content, ChessCatalog version, and iOS version.
We use this information to respond to your request, troubleshoot technical issues, improve ChessCatalog and our support process, maintain appropriate business records, protect against misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, Apple Account credentials, or private collection material that is not necessary to resolve your request.
Information processed automatically
CuraCab.com is hosted by Squarespace. When you visit the website, Squarespace and related infrastructure may process information such as your IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location derived from your network connection, security events, and form-submission activity.
Cookies and similar technologies
Squarespace may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to operate and secure the website. Depending on the site’s privacy settings and your choices, Squarespace may also use analytics or performance cookies to help us understand website traffic and interaction.
You can use available cookie controls on the website and settings in your browser to manage cookies. Restricting some cookies may affect certain website functions.
How information may be shared
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose limited information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: To companies that provide services on our behalf, such as website hosting, form delivery, email, security, and Apple platform services, where necessary to provide those services
- Legal and safety requirements: When reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, enforceable government requests, protect rights or safety, or investigate fraud or abuse
- Business changes: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal protections
- With your direction: When you ask or authorize us to share information
Service providers are expected to process information only for the purposes for which it was provided and under protections appropriate to the nature of the information.
Retention, correction, and deletion
ChessCatalog collection data
Because your ChessCatalog records are stored on your device and, when enabled, in your private iCloud environment, you generally manage and delete that information directly through the app, your device, or Apple’s iCloud controls.
Deleting the app from one device may not delete copies that remain on another device, in iCloud, or in an Apple-managed backup. The availability and deletion of those copies are governed by your Apple settings and Apple’s services.
Support communications
We retain support requests and related communications for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, document the resolution, improve our services, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and satisfy legal, accounting, or operational requirements. When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete or de-identify it.
Your requests
You may ask us to review, correct, or delete personal information that you submitted directly to Curator’s Cabinet through our website or support process. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and certain information may be retained where required or permitted by law.
To make a request, use the ChessCatalog Support page and choose Privacy or Data Question.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information under our control. ChessCatalog’s local and iCloud data also depends on the security of your device, Apple Account, passcode, backups, network, and Apple services.
No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining appropriate security for your devices and accounts, including a strong Apple Account password, two-factor authentication, device passcodes, and current software updates.
Children’s privacy
ChessCatalog and CuraCab.com are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through our support process.
If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us through the Support page so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as ChessCatalog, CuraCab.com, our service providers, or applicable requirements change. When we update it, we will revise the effective date shown at the top of this page.
When changes are material, we may also provide additional notice through the app, website, App Store information, or another appropriate channel.
